4. Summary of Key Design Patterns
4.1 PM vs. PLM Comparison
| Feature | PM Module | PLM Module |
|---|---|---|
| Lifecycle Complexity | Simple (2-4 states) | Complex (Part has 7 states) |
| Workflow | None (Life Cycle only) | Yes (10 Workflow Maps) |
| Version Control | None | Part/Document/CAD versioning supported |
| Master Role | Owner | Sciot PLM |
| Scheduling Engine | Yes (ES/EF/LS/LF) | No |
| Earned Value Management | Yes (CPI/SPI/EVM) | No |
| BOM Management | No | Yes (Part BOM) |
| Document Management | Basic | Rich (Document/CAD) |
4.2 Permission Models
| Role Type | PM | PLM |
|---|---|---|
| Administrator | Administrators, Agent Admin | Sciot PLM |
| Creator/Owner | Creator, Owner | Creator, Owner |
| Manager | Manager (View+Update) | Manager (View+Update) |
| Regular User | World (Read-only) | All Employees (Read-only) |
| Special Roles | Project Management | CM, Component Engineering |
4.3 The Central Role of the Sciot PLM Identity
Sciot PLM is the "master key" for the entire PLM module:
- Controls all transitions in the Part lifecycle (except one Owner path)
- Has full permissions for all PLM data types
- Is the full controller in New Part/New Document/New CAD permissions
- Is the full controller in New Change permissions
- Used for the SCIOT Full permission template
4.4 Summary of Default Values
| Setting | Default Value | Applicable Scope |
|---|---|---|
| allow_team_change_logic | 1 (true) | Part, Document, CAD |
| percent_compl | 0 | Activity2 |
| deliv_required | 0 | Activity2, WBS Element |
| scheduling_mode | 1 | Project |
| is_versionable | 0 (PM) / 1 (PLM Core) | Module Level |
| manual_versioning | 0 (Part/Doc) / 1 (CAD) | PLM |
| Can Add | World (Document), All Employees (Part), CM (Product), Project Management (PM) | ItemType Level |
| Part Number Start | 100000 | Part |
| CAD Number Format | CAD-00000001 | CAD |
5. Precautions and Common Pitfalls
- CAD's manual_versioning=1: It is the only type with manual versioning, different from other PLM types.
- Activity2 transition role is World: Anyone can advance the activity status; pay attention to permission control.
- Sciot PLM is the master role: It controls almost all PLM lifecycle transitions.
- PM has no Workflow: The PM module only has a Life Cycle, no approval workflow.
- Document's Can Add=World: Document creation permissions are very permissive.
- Part has two Preliminary→Released paths: Sciot PLM and Owner (requires checking change items).
- Product/Manufacturer uses the Default lifecycle: Created as Released, no approval required.
- Team Manager/Member/Guest are system identities: Not editable, marked as "System Identity – Do Not Edit".
- scheduling_mode default=1 and mandatory: The scheduling mode must be specified when creating a Project.
- WBS Element has no lifecycle transition: It is in Active state immediately after creation.
